A favorite hot beverage for many Westerners is mulled wine. It is considered to be a traditional drink during the winter months, especially around Christmas. It can be served hot or warm and is made with red wine, usually port or claret, orange zest and juice, cardamom pods, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, cinnamon, sugar and sometimes brandy. The method of preparation is for every pint of wine allow 1 large cupful of water, sugar and spice to taste. Combine ingredients in a large pot and simmer. Do not allow mixture to boil. Heat for 20 minutes and serve in a large, heat resistant punch bowl. Garnish with cinnamon quills and nutmeg.

The smell of hot cinnamon apple cider wafting in the air is like a pure magnet for me. This is a beverage that you can experiment with by using different spices to add flavor. Usually cloves, nutmeg, lemon peel and ginger are all complementary flavors that can add amazing taste, and don't forget to add the cinnamon stick as a garnish; it not only looks pretty but it elevates the taste and fragrance. For a hardier cider you can add a shot of rum and some brown sugar.

Hawaj eggnog is something that sounds different but it really doesn't vary from the familiar eggnog beverage that is served during the holiday season.
