Not only is the citrus orange one of the most loved fruits on the planet, it is also packed with Vitamin C and other healthy nutrients it is just plain good for you!
The thick outer layer that protects the fruit is the peel, and is also known as the rind or skin. The peel is quite bitter so it is not generally eaten, but when grated or scraped, it is used as a zest in certain recipes. The peel carries the essential oils of the fruit which adds a tangy flavor to the dish. You can also pare the peel into thin strips and use it as an aromatic garnish. The concentrated flavor you get when using orange peel can transform any dish such as, stir-fries, salads, tagines, rice dishes, soups, desserts and definitely a hot cup of tea into something incredibly delicious the applications are endless.
