Made from crushed, ground red sumac berries, which have a tart, sharp lemon-like flavor. It is used as a seasoning on rice, marinades and meat rubs. Ground sumac is great to use for flavoring soup, meat, vegetables and legumes, lentils, white beans, and chickpeas. Or sometimes we simply use it instead of salt and pepper; tastes great sprinkled on salads. You can use sumac as a replacement for vinegar or lemons because of its agreeably astringent taste.
