Makes about 2 cups
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp ground Saigon cinnamon
- 2 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Instructions:
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a jar or large bowl, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper.
- Blend well: Use a sifter or a whisk to mix everything together thoroughly. You can also shake the ingredients in a jar to combine.
- Prepare your hot chocolate: When you're ready to make the drink, add 2-3 tablespoons of the spice mix (or to taste) to a saucepan of your preferred milk or milk substitute.
- Heat: Warm the milk and spice mix over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until hot (but not boiling).
- Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into cups and enjoy! The cayenne adds a subtle kick that balances the sweetness of the sugar and the richness of the cocoa.
Tip: Adjust the amount of spice mix depending on how strong you want the flavor.
Enjoy this spicy, cozy drink!
